Deaf Camping & Caravanning in the UK for all ages
Our History: The Founding of DCCC
The Deaf Caravanning and Camping Club (DCCC) was founded in 1974, born from a shared vision to create a welcoming community for deaf caravanners and campers across the UK.
In 1973, rally enthusiasts William Stokes and Tony Beasley recognised the need for a national club where deaf people could meet, socialise, and enjoy outdoor activities together. They approached Michael Webster, and together the three discovered that no organisation existed to support this growing interest within the deaf community.
With determination to fill this gap, the founders began promoting the idea at major deaf community events. A key milestone came in May 1974 at Drayton Manor Park, Tamworth, during the British Deaf Association Midland It’s a Knockout event and the Midland Deaf Sports dance. The weekend attracted many deaf visitors and several caravanners—an ideal opportunity to gather support.
On the Sunday morning of that weekend, an informal meeting was held with around ten caravanning units in attendance. The response was enthusiastic, and the decision was made to establish a new club: the Deaf Caravanning and Camping Club (DCCC).
The first committee was elected that day:
- Chairman: Michael Webster
- Vice Chairman: William Stokes
- Secretary: Tony Beasley
- Treasurer: Godfrey Palmer
From these early beginnings, DCCC has grown into a strong, vibrant community that continues to bring people together through shared experiences, accessible events, and a passion for the outdoors.

I joined DCCCUK in 2015 at Bath. I enjoy outdoor life, realised only one deaf caravan & camping club for several weekend rallies throughout the year all over UK.
For every rallies I go is brilliant atmosphere with all deaf members, loving exploring different places, cycling, hiking, signing away all day & night, bbq sitting outside watch sunset, play games and quiz, excellent deaf community enjoying countryside and coastal areas.
I became vice chairperson in 2020 then later chairperson in 2022.
We have celebrated amazing 50 years anniversary last year.

Paul Winterhalter
Secretary
I didn’t experience camping as a child, but I discovered my love for it in my late teens while adventuring with friends. In the late 80s, I joined DCCC/WDC with my young family, beginning with a trailer tent and later moving on to a caravan.
In 2023, I rejoined with a campervan and, in 2024, proudly took on the role of Secretary.
Camping is my escape from the hustle and bustle of everyday life. I especially enjoy peaceful countryside breaks, meeting friends, and exploring new places—there are so many beautiful corners to discover across the UK.
I also helped to design our new website, focusing on making bookings easier and ensuring all the information is clear and accessible for everyone.

Treasurer
Â
I joined DCCCuk in 1975, giving me nearly 50 years of camping experience. I started out using a tent for the first two years before buying a caravan in 1977. I’ve always loved travelling and camping for the fun, laughter, and friendships it brings.
I first joined the committee from 1983 to 1985, stepping back due to family commitments. In 1987, I became Treasurer when the role was needed, and I’ve been proud to support the club in this way ever since.
